A year ago today I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer.
Today I find joy in celebrating the trials and eventual triumph of the last year. I reminisce about the small moments that I had with people along the way and I can't help but smile.
Life is funny that way.
I remember where I was and who I was with when I got the news. I was gearing up to go to Cape Cod with my best friend Annie for a relaxing weekend - with the news - the weekend took a new turn.
I recall sitting around a fire pit, roasting marshmallows for S'mores with my friend and her family. Sitting there, we were all laughing about life, sharing stories, and truly enjoying each other. It was at that moment that I knew I would be OK. I don't know how I knew it - but I knew with all this love around me that I wasn't going to fail or give up.
The moments are many - but for some reason this one stuck out to me today as I looked at my calendar to see June 13 again.
So - three surgeries, weeks and weeks in the hospital, and a full year later...I know that it was those whom I surrounded myself with that were the driving force in my fight and recovery. So I take this moment to thank you all again from the very bottom of my heart for all you've done.
